BETWEEN WHAT ENDS AND WHAT BEGINS

A note at the turn

By Alves Batista

“It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste much of it.”

    — Seneca

April is coming to an end.

And the problem was not a lack of time.

It was decisions postponed in moments that seemed small.

There are choices made through delay.

“We are what we repeatedly do.”

— Aristotle

What we repeat — you and I — defines May.

Not the plans.

The patterns you tolerate.

Some things don’t need more effort.

They need an ending.

Like that subscription you don’t use.

Or that “yes” you give without really knowing why.

“He who has no fixed goal cannot judge what is right.”

— Michel de Montaigne

If you don’t cut it off,

you’ll call chance what was actually avoided choice.

Don’t mistake persistence for direction.

May does not change on its own.

“The obstacle on the path becomes the path.”

— Marcus Aurelius

Sometimes, the obstacle

is exactly what you keep.
